Quality Lass, a 5-year-old mare by Exclusive Quality, showed her heart and class in winning the $100,000 Satin and Lace Stakes on June 8 at Presque Isle Downs, Video
Taking the lead out of the gates, Quality Lass was passed by Sweet Nkosi in the late stretch. But Quality Lass dug deep and responded with a gritty nose victory in 1:04.07 for the five and a half furlongs sprint. It was the first stakes win for Quality Lass, who had previously posted a third in The Very One Stakes on May 17 at Pimlico. Bred by Ocala-based Sienna Farms, the Ontario-bred Quality Lass is campaigned by West Point Thoroughbreds. Trained by Guadalupe Preciado, Quality Lass has banked $70,000 this season and has career earnings to date of $274,265.
Out of the stakes-placed Bold Executive mare On the Podium, Quality Lass was consigned by Sienna Farms, agent, to the 2010 OBS August yearling sale. She was purchased for $40,000 by Kenneth Lejeune, agent, who then consigned Quality Lass to the 2011 OBS March 2-year-olds in training sale. Current owner West Point Thoroughbreds signed the ticket on her at that sale for $82,000.
Stakes winner Exclusive Quality entered stud at Journeyman Stud in 2008. In addition to Quality Lass, he is also the sire of four other stakes winners and five stakes-placed runners. Exclusive Quality’s leading earner is multiple stakes winner Sr. Quisqueyano, who has to date earned $527,400.
