Pachanga Party’s connections celebrated Saturday after the undefeated 2-year-old Indy Wind colt scampered to a 1 3/4-length victory in the $85,000 Birdonthewire S. at Calder Race Course (VIDEO).
Indy Wind ranks in the top 5 on Florida’s second-crop sire list, with a remarkable 10 winners from just 16 starters and nearly $400,000 in progeny earnings.
The Larry Bell homebred took control from the break, repelled a charge from Pallium Prize around the turn and into the stretch, then pulled away late to seal the victory.
“I told my jockey, these other horses might run away from you; so if you don’t break good or if you break with them and you want to lay back, okay, but it’s up to you,” said Dennis Ward, trainer Wesley A. Ward’s father. “It’s a good thing he did what he wanted to do. He ran like he did last time and when he turned for home, he just ran away.”
Pachanga Party picked up $51,000 for the win and now has $68,700 in his bankroll.
