Sr. Quisqueyano, a 5-year-old bay horse by Exclusive Quality, opened 2015 with a decisive win in the $250,000 Florida Sunshine Millions Classic on Saturday, January 17, at Gulfstream Park. It was the fifth career stakes win for Sr. Quisqueyano, who has a career bankroll to date of $713,560. (Race Video at bottom of article)
After a good break, Sr. Quisqueyano settled into third place just behind the leaders. He then made his charge four wide, taking the lead at the three-quarters pole. At the wire, he was a half-length the best over graded stakes winner East Hall. Opening fractions were :22.77, :46.17, 1:10.59 with a winning time of 1:50.09 for the nine furlongs.
Prior to his Florida Sunshine Millions Classic victory, Sr. Quisqueyano had previously won the Calder Derby, Eight Miles East Stakes, Quality Road Stakes and Seacliff Stakes. The talented runner has also been stakes-placed eight times, including a pair of thirds in graded stakes.
Bred by Do-Little Farm, Sr. Quisqueyano is out of the Polish Navy mare Royal Navy. Owned by Loooch Racing Stables, Sr. Quisqueyano is trained by Peter Walder. In his first start on the 2015 season, Sr. Quisqueyano earned $153,450 for the Florida Sunshine Millions Classic win.
Exclusive Quality, a stakes-winning son of leading sire Elusive Quality, was the 2014 fourth-leading Florida sire ($2,369,048) and fourth-leading Florida juvenile sire ($692,569). In addition to Sr. Quisqueyano, Exclusive Quality is also the sire of stakes winner and graded stakes-placed R Sassy Lass, stakes winner Holywell, stakes winner Quality Lass and stakes-placed Sandor The Hound.
