Coco’s Wildcat Scorching Fast in Cassidy Stakes Win

Coco’s Wildcat, a 2-year-old filly by Journeyman Stud stallion Wildcat Heir, became a stakes winner in only her second career start. VIDEO
The Gilbert Campbell homebred sped to a wire-to-wire, five-and-three quarters length win in the Cassidy Stakes on July 12 at Gulfstream Park. Out of the Sword Dance (Ire) mare Coco’s for Real, Coco’s Wildcat set sizzling fractions of :21.96, :45:05, :57.77 to win the five and a half furlong sprint in 1:04.90.
Trained by Kathleen O’Connel, Coco’s Wildcat broke her maiden at first asking on May 25 at Gulfstream Park. In the four and a half furlong maiden special weight, the precocious filly won by three lengths in :52.12. In two wins out of two starts, Coco’s Wildcat has banked $69,745.
Wildcat Heir, the leading Florida sire in 2013, 2011 and 2010, now boasts six stakes winners in 2014. This season, Wildcat Heir has sired graded stakes winner Wild Dude and multiple stakes winner Daring Kathy, as well as stakes winners Coco’s Wildcat, Hot Heir Skier, One More Wild Ride and Ramona’s Wildcat.
