Chloe Raven became the first winner for her freshman sire Winslow Homer with a romp at first asking July 1 at Louisiana Downs for owners Fletcher B. Clement and Henry B. Johnson Jr.’s.
The 2-year-old filly broke sharply in an $18,000 maiden special weight at 4 1/2 furlongs, and was much the best while in hand throughout under jockey Jorge Guzman. She posted fractons of :23.43 and :46.94 en route to a final time of :53.67 on a sloppy, sealed track by a 7 3/4 length margin of victory.
Chloe Raven is trained by Johnson, who picked her up for $22,000 at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales April 2017 spring sale of 2-year-olds in training from the Pure Lucky consignment. Bred in Florida by Darsan Inc., out of the Roman Ruler mare Alemona, she was an $8,000 purchase by Francisco Gardea Jr. from the Darsan consignment to the OBS 2016 August yearlings sale.
Winslow Homer, a 10-year-old son of Unbridled’s Song, won the 2010 Holy Bull Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream Park and later romped in the Curlin Stakes at Saratoga Race Course for Fox Hill Farm and trainer Chad Brown.
